Never Do Black Magick.
Never Ever, Ever. Except . . .
You should never do Black Magick. Not even accidentally. Thatâs what I wrote in the first edition of Modern Magick. Thatâs what I believed. Thatâs what Iâve taught. However, as my understanding of karma (Tee-koon) has evolved, my position on this has had to evolve, too.
As I have described, karma is completely based on actions, not intent. It doesnât matter that an accident resulting in your harming someone else was unintended. You did it. You get the karma for it. Itâs that simple. Deal with it.
But there is something unique that happens as you grow and evolve as a magician: rules arenât simply rules you follow because, well, because theyâre the rules. Rather, you follow them because you understand them. You understand karma.
For example, if I violently harm someone, I get the karma for my action. Thatâs simple and direct. But now let me give you a little scenario . . .
Iâm walking to my house, and I hear screams. I go to investigate. A man is raping a woman. I tell him to stop. He ignores me. I push him away. He just pushes back and continues his ugly attack on the woman.
I know that the next step will be to stop him through the use of physical harm to him. Causing physical harm will result in my accruing ânegativeâ karma. Itâs a form of Black Magick (although understood by Western science) thatâs not even accidental. If I act with violence, Iâll be committing Black Magick.
So what should I do? Call for help and avoid the unwanted karmic result of my actions?
Sorry. No chance. Iâm just a human and far from perfect. If itâs necessary to harm that person to prevent a rape, I would do it without worrying about the karmic consequences for me. I wouldnât give it a second thought. In my imperfect way I would do what I feel I have to do and feel not a single drop of remorse.
So, if youâre still around during my next lifetime and I come back as a skunk or a rock, please, take advantage of me and make me useful so I can once again evolve spiritually.
Karma is perfectly just. But sometimes, as a human, I may need to tell karma to go to Hell as I consciously choose to do something that will incur unwanted karma. Thatâs okay. I can live with it. Again and again, if need be.
So in some instances Iâll choose to do what I believe right for the greatest number of people and for our planet, even if itâs karmically regressive for me.
Thatâs just the way I am.
